Choose your buying path
One laptop, one monitor
A USB-C to HDMI adapter, USB-C to DisplayPort adapter or compact multiport adapter may be enough.
Dual monitors or 4K
Check USB-C video support, Thunderbolt, USB4, MST, DisplayLink and monitor resolution before ordering.
Hot desk or office desk

Not all USB-C ports support display output or laptop charging. Before choosing a dock, hub or display adapter, confirm the following:
- Laptop brand and exact model number
- Available ports, such as USB-C, USB4, Thunderbolt, HDMI or DisplayPort
- Operating system, such as Windows, macOS or ChromeOS
- Number of external monitors required
- Monitor resolution and refresh-rate requirements, such as Full HD, 4K or dual 4K

Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air compatibility
Apple Mac compatibility depends heavily on the MacBook model, chip generation, macOS version and dock type.
Base Apple Silicon MacBook models
Some base Apple Silicon MacBook models have native limits on the number of external displays they can support. If you need multiple external monitors, check whether a DisplayLink-based dock or adapter is suitable.
DisplayLink-based docks generally require the DisplayLink Manager app to be installed and running on macOS. This may not be suitable for every managed IT environment, so business buyers should confirm driver policy before rollout.
MacBook Pro with Pro or Max chips
MacBook Pro models with Pro or Max chips generally provide stronger native external display support than many base models, depending on the exact MacBook, chip, display resolution and refresh rate.
For these users, a Thunderbolt dock may be a better fit where native high-performance multi-display support is required.
macOS MST note
macOS does not handle DisplayPort MST multi-display extension in the same way as Windows. A USB-C MST hub that extends displays on a Windows laptop may mirror displays on macOS instead of extending them.
If you need extended dual displays on a Mac, check whether the setup requires a Thunderbolt dock, a DisplayLink dock, direct USB-C / Thunderbolt display connections, or specific macOS driver support.
Dell Latitude, XPS, Inspiron and Precision compatibility
Dell business laptops are commonly used with USB-C, USB4 and Thunderbolt docking accessories.
Windows-based Dell laptops often work well with USB-C docks, Thunderbolt docks and MST display adapters, provided the laptop port supports video output and the correct firmware or drivers are installed.
Dell power delivery note
Some high-performance Dell XPS and Precision laptops may require more power than a standard USB-C dock provides. Many USB-C docks provide up to 85W or 100W Power Delivery. If your laptop requires 130W or more, it may still operate through the dock, but charging may be slower or a power warning may appear.
Check the original Dell power adapter rating before selecting a dock for high-performance Dell laptops.
Lenovo ThinkPad, Yoga and IdeaPad compatibility
Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are commonly used in business, hot-desking and fleet environments, and are often a practical match for universal docks and USB-C connectivity accessories.
Many ThinkPad models use 65W or 90W power adapters, which may align well with docks that support 85W to 100W USB-C Power Delivery.
For Lenovo Yoga and IdeaPad laptops, check whether the USB-C port supports display output, charging, Thunderbolt or USB4 before selecting a dock or display adapter.
HP EliteBook, ProBook, Spectre and Pavilion compatibility
HP business laptops such as EliteBook and ProBook models are often suitable for USB-C docks, Ethernet adapters, display adapters and multiport hubs.
If using Thunderbolt or USB-C video accessories, check that BIOS, Thunderbolt firmware, USB-C drivers and display drivers are up to date. Older firmware or device security settings may affect third-party USB-C video or Thunderbolt accessories.
Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop compatibility
Newer Microsoft Surface devices with USB-C, USB4 or Thunderbolt ports may work with compatible docks and adapters.
Older Surface devices may require model-specific adapters or may have more limited display, charging and port options.
Before selecting a dock for a Surface device, confirm the Surface model generation, available ports, external display limits, charging requirements and whether the user needs one monitor or multiple monitors.
Chromebook compatibility
Chromebook compatibility depends on the device model, ChromeOS version, ports and accessory certification.
For simpler deployment, look for accessories that are labelled as compatible with ChromeOS or Works With Chromebook where available.
Chromebooks usually do not require traditional Windows or macOS drivers, but display support still depends on the laptop port, monitor setup and adapter specifications.
